The Diplomas were established in 1965 by the FAI to recognize groups of people (design offices, scientific bodies, aeronautical publications, etc) that have contributed significantly to the progress of Aeronautics and Astronautics during the previous year or years.
Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia Limited is a not-for-profit corporation established to promote the development of aviation and Australian industrial, manufacturing and information / communications technology resources in the fields of aviation, aerospace, maritime and defence.
The Foundation also conducts a major national careers and skills program to encourage interest by young people in pursuing careers in the aviation, aerospace, maritime and defence sectors.
The Foundation was established following the success of the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Air Show. In 1992, the Australian International Air Show evolved and is now recognised as one of the world’s major air shows. A uniquely multi-faceted event, it comprehensively encompasses the complete spectrum of aviation – from military and commercial, through civil and corporate to sporting, recreational and general aviation.
In parallel to the International Airshow, the International Aerospace Defence Exposition and the associated ground defence equipment exhibition is held.
Firmly established on the international aviation, aerospace and defence industry calendar, these events showcase Australian capabilities, resources and technologies to the nation and to the world.
The Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia, over a period of some 19 years, has contributed significantly to the advancement of aeronautics through its showcase events. The foundation, as a focal point of aviation in the Asia Pacific region, is a deserved recipient of the FAI Honorary Group Diploma for Aeronautics.
