The MAAA is delighted to be able to advise that the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI – the World Air Sports Federation) control line world championships have recently been completed in Hungary. The events was attended by competitors from over 21 countries. For the second successive Championship the World Champions in the individual team racing event are Australians, Robert Fitzgerald and Mark Ellins. In addition our defending champions, Hugh Simons and Grant Potter, reached the semi finals but were eliminated at that stage. Our wining team also set two new FAI world records of 3 min 2.4 sec in the heats and 6 min 33.6 sec in the longer final. The leading competitors spend hundreds of hours practicing before the event to hone their individual reflexes and develop the exceptional team work that is required to achieve the highest standard of performance. In the combat event, Tom Linwood placed third in the Junior Combat. This is the first placing that Australia has had in this event in a World Championship and is a great reward for all the efforts of this up and coming young man.
On behalf of all members of the MAAA, the MAAA Executive offers its warmest congratulations to these members on their world level achievements.
